Nakarai Laboratory is a research team of Professor Kenichiro Nakarai of Structural Engineering Laboratory for Design & Maintenance of Structures at Hiroshima University . Our research focuses on concrete in civil engineering and its application to ground improvement and nuclear waste management to create a better world. Prof. Nakarai manages the Structural Engineering Laboratory with Assistant Professor Ichiro Ario and Assistant Professor May Huu Nguyen at Civil and Environmental Engineering Program, Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University. He also collaborates with Associate Professor Naser Khaji of Infrastructure Management Laboratory, and Professor Kenji Kawai and Assistant Professor Yuko Ogawa of Structural Materials Engineering Laboratory.
History
When Prof. Kenichiro Nakarai was appointed as an Associate Professor at Hiroshima University in 2012, the Structural Engineering Laboratory was managed by Professor Katashi Fujii and Assistant Professor Ichiro Ario. Prof. Katashi Fujii, who specialized in the maintenance of steel structures, graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Hiroshima University in 1977 and started working at Kawada Industries, Inc. He joined the faculty of Engineering, Hiroshima University, as an Assistant Professor in 1979, was promoted to an Associate Professor in 1990, and was promoted to Professor in 2009 after the retirement of his predecessor, Professor Hideharu Nakamura. Dr. Ichiro Ario was appointed at Hiroshima University from Wakayama National College of Technology in 1997 and has been working on nonlinear mathematical analysis from the viewpoint of applied mechanics (computational mechanics) and practical research on smart deployment structures.
After Prof. Fujii retired in 2017, Prof. Nakarai was promoted to Professor in 2018, and Associate Professor Naser Khaji was appointed at the Infrastructure Management Laboratory, which was newly established in 2019. In addition, Assistant Professor Ho Si Lanh, who obtained his PhD in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Nakarai, and Assistant Professor May Huu Nguyen, who obtained his PhD in 2020, joined the laboratory in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
